Our Vision

We seek to reduce millions of tonnes of carbon emissions, save millions of kWhs of power, millions of litres of water, and reduce millions of tonnes of waste from hospitality worldwide through the application of responsible technology.

Our Mission

Our raison d'être is to transform the way hospitality consumes resources, by turning the invisibility of energy, water, food and materials use into visible, measured, monitored, and controlled consumption that reduces the use of finite supplies.

By staying true to our vision we reduce environmental degradation, inflated costs and wasteful operations; whilst simultaneously building human resilience to adapt. Our mission is based on research evidence that shows operational waste and conserving behaviours can make substantial savings in hotels. Our own real-world peer reviewed research confirms there is a +50% savings potential in hospitality.

Our Core Beliefs

We define hospitality as tourist accommodation that provides friendly and welcoming services delivered by humans to visitors. We define responsible technology as the integration of hardware/software with human behaviour to take actions that minimise negative impacts and maximise positive benefits – consciously.

We are committed to:

  • Providing hospitality with responsible technology services to accelerate responsible action that serves to halt biodiversity loss and accelerate Climate Action.
  • Designing software solutions that positively report tangible results and reinforce personnel success to motivate managers, staff and guests.
  • Freely sharing knowledge and using our solutions encourage skills development of all. ‘Knowledge’ for all and responsible ‘control’ of resources are the two drivers of our business.

Our Relationship with our Clients

We forge strategic partnerships with our clients and look to build long-term relationships based on mutual trust. Our integrity is founded on always applying an independent eye to identify the most salient sustainability issues and their causes using a science-based approach. Our scientific methods form the foundation for all our work and are the founding pillar of our company.

Knowledge & Skills Sharing

We recognise that to apply responsible solutions you must have a willing cooperative workforce. We encourage our clients to build the sustainability capacity of their management, staff and suppliers, because knowledge is the essential ingredient to drive practical sustainability-led action. This approach also provides worthwhile employment and career opportunities for staff, many of whom now seek employment with companies who share values and concerns for nature as well as fair work conditions. For these reasons we include both formal on-line training for all, as well as regular client interaction and coaching, plus guidance for the client team with advice pertinent to the unique characteristics of their property.

Evidence-based Verification

We are not a certification programme, instead we provide independent Evidence-based Verification which can support the application of a building or tourism certification scheme; form part of a ESG report; provide a detailed report for stakeholders; or transparent reporting to guests and destinations. Our aim is to foster greater confidence in sustainability reporting, to stop Greenwashing claims and help clients distinguish themselves with transparent reporting.

Real-time versus Moment in Time

One needs live data to drive continuous progress rather than reporting a single moment in time just once a year if you are to achieve a more sustainable hospitality business. We maximise the benefits of live reporting by designing practical tools to enable managers and staff to make real-time decisioning. Our clients thus benefit form eco-feedback that enables them to devise tests to optimise their hospitality service, or change course quickly, or to take pre-emptive steps in the face of extreme weather events.

Our Relationship with our Suppliers

Our Benefits for the Environment

Saving Results

Our mission is to deliver maximum energy, water, waste and material savings for our clients. For example at Europe’s largest theme park’s self-contained accommodation we reduced electricity consumption by 24% and water 14%, at the UK’s leading time share property, Langdale, we reduced electricity use by 21% and gas by 14%, and in Darwin Australia we saved over 30% in resources.

Conservation and regeneration

To increase our client’s environmental benefits, we have devised the ‘Noble Cause’ feature on the My Green Butler service. This allows clients to select a proposition of their guest’s savings to a Noble Cause. These causes, such as the protection of Red Squirrels by Langdale, or Landcare by Magnum Apartments, help to protect species or rejuvenate natural environments. The client can add to these sums through further contributions from any of our services. Guests can also make donations to top up the fund.

Our Benefits for Society

Build Capacity

We ensure the impact of our work goes beyond the hotels, resorts and other accommodations we work with. Each staff member can apply many of the saving strategies we recommend outside the work environment. We include in our training specific details of how sustainability can be applied in the home for energy, water saving and waste reduction. Further we build their carbon and energy literacy by explaining the scaling of resources and how to interpret the consumption of everyday appliances in comparison terms so they can make informed decisions. We have found that these elements of the training have been greatly appreciated by participants.

Diversity and Inclusivity

When using our guests service My Green Butler, we have designed advice to reflect the diversity of guests. We apply a responsible search range so that accessible holiday attractions options can be promoted for wheelchair accessible, deaf, and blind guests can also enjoy the destination. We also promote plant-based diet options through the promotion of vegetarian and vegan restaurants. In addition, we also offer suggestions of Halal, Kosher places to eat to ensure the hospitality provider considers as wide a range of guests as possible. We find guests strongly appreciate the care and attention to their individual needs. This feedback also educates our clients to recognise the variety and needs of visitors and encourages them to reconsider their own hospitality facilities.

Behavioural Change

We share advice to guests on how to adapt by using no or low carbon methods to keep warm or cool. Many of the adaptation, energy and water advice tips have been warmly received by guests who not only respond to make savings at the tourist accommodation but also comment on how they will reconsider how they consume at home. In addition, our training includes confidence building modules that enable accommodation staff to engage with guests on relevant sustainability topics.

Volunteering

One of the drivers of our company is ‘knowledge’ so we voluntarily share our sustainability expertise through training programmes. For example, we have signed a MOU with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and provide training content to help non clients raise their staff capacity. We use our data to contribute to scientific papers and have worked with Griffith University and University of Surrey. We have also shared our insights at the World Travel Market in the UK several times, the Atlas Conference in Austria in 2023, the travel Show in Darwin in 2022, and the No Vacancy Show in Australia 2024.

Our Relationship with our Team

Our team is the heart of our business, and we select candidates with a strong interest and personal commitment to social and environmental causes. We provide virtual working practices and while we have a daily 09:00 team call, staff have a high degree of flexibility when and how they work. Training is offered to all staff. In the future as we grow, we will provide a 10% profit sharing for staff.
